Happy New Year.
Sorry the cam has been down. I (Hugh the original owner and host of ob-kc) left San Francisco back in July and turned the cam over to new occupants who agreed to continue to host and maintain it. However, they turned it off because it was slowing down their internet connection.
Since this is a gigabit connection, the interference is likely the result of poor router configuration so this might be a quick fix.
To get this back on line, we need a volunteer who can come in and troubleshoot the suck and configure the cam/router for optimal multi party use.
Additionally, I need someone from the community to step up to manage and crowdfund for the cam. This can be a coalition, I don't care but to keep the cam going, someone responsible needs to take ownership. If the community wants to move it, that's fine too. Just work it out with the occupants.
The community owns the cam, router and weather station as it was paid for through earlier crowdfunding. All the hardware including the router is in place, it literally just needs to be plugged back in.
The cost to maintain the site and equipment are as follows:
Angelcam hosting: $30/mo (There might be a better option.)
obkc.ddns.net: free but needs to be manually renewed monthly
Weather Link: free
Domain host: I will continue to support
Comcast: work this out with current occupants. If interference cannot be fixed through configuration, then another line will have to be installed at market rate cost. Cam needs at least 200 mbps UPLOAD and 5 mbps DOWNLOAD.
Wind sensors: $100 annually as the salt air eats them up.
So annual costs are roughly $500 using existing internet connection or up to $2,000 if a separate line is required.
Interested volunteers familiar with security cam setup, please contact me.
Interested community members interested in taking ownership, please contact me.
I want to transfer all the credentials over to the new owner/manager. You can reach me at hb at rbk dot org.
